One of the first meals my mom taught me to cook is a very easy, healthy roast chicken with vegetables.  When she first told me how to make it, I was amazed at how such little seasoning could turn chicken into a flavorful meal. And, there is no need to prepare an entrée and vegetable course when serving this dish as it combines the both!  Here's how to whip it up (adjust the portions to fit your needs).
In Hawaii, many backyard gardens grow the long squash that is green and can grow up to several feet in length.  Long squash is especially plentiful in the summer months.  Despite the heat of the season, my husband and 2-year-old son love to eat squash soup so much that they can devour it week after week.  I've even resorted to doubling my original recipe to keep up with them!  The best part about Squash Soup, above the rave reviews and nutritional value, is that it's super easy to make and a perfect one-pot meal.  So, I thought that some of you may be interested in the recipe and making it for your families.  Here it is:
shahrzad-tea1I've been making ice cream for several years now and it took awhile to get the basics down from the equipment to the technique and the ingredients.  Now that I've mastered chocolate, vanilla, and a few other popular flavors, I've been delving into some new ones.  One of them is unexpected and yet appears to be nearly addictive so I thought I'd share it with you.  It's Persian Black Tea Ice Cream.
The following are a few little improvements for some big companies' fact sheets.  Our hope is that our critiques of these fact sheets will help make yours even better than it is.
hot-chocolateOk, so we've blogged about Twitter and its benefits a few times before But as we Tweet more and more, it's amazing to see how Twitter has opened up a whole new meaning to communication, connectivity, and customer service. First of all, Twitter gives you a one-degree separation between you and the people and businesses on Twitter. Move out of the way, Kevin Bacon, Twitter's got you beat!  It's so easy to Tweet your favorite celebrity, reporter, business, and so on. Of course you'll need to do a little investigating (quick Google search) to make sure the user you're tweeting is the "real" person or business you're looking for (versus imposters). And, many times, they will reply back to you. We've tweeted to and received replies from Al Roker, KGMB9 News, Starbucks, Zippy's, and Andy Bumatai, to name a few. So cool! We know it's cheesy to be star struck, but we don't care...we LOVE it!  As a frequent Starbucks drinker, I was thrilled and very impressed with the prompt response I got when I tweeted @Starbucks a question one day. In terms of brand loyalty, can you imagine how my original warm-and-fuzzy feelings for my favorite coffee stop got even warmer and fuzzier (and led to more visits and purchases)?
This year we had the distinct honor to award scholarships to two deserving and extraordinary recipients, Benjie Baclig and Shelcie Takenouchi.  Shelcie is in Southern California, where she will attend USC to pursue a master of arts degree in strategic public relations.  Benjie just graduated as the valedictorian from Waimea High School on Kaua'i's Westside so we were able to take him and his family to breakfast to meet him and learn what fired his ambition to be great.
twitter-blackTwitter, the social networking micro-blogging service, is gaining popularity like wildfire. Everyone from celebrities, news entities, politicians, businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals like you and me, are using Twitter to connect with their publics.  According to mashable.com, Twitter has an expected 1,192 percent annual growth rate.  That's astounding!  On Kauai, businesses such as No Ka Oi Landscape Service (@NKOLandscape), The Grand Hyatt Kauai (@GHKPoipu), Deja Vu Surf Hawaii (@dejavusurf), and more are tweeting about the latest news and activities in their companies and industries, and even offering exclusive tips and deals for their tweeting customers (check out Bubba Burger @Bubba_Burger).
