Fujita & Miura Public Relations (FMPR) announces that Mia Marty and Christopher Moore have been named the 2026 FMPR Scholars and have each received $1,000 college scholarships.

Mia Marty graduated from Kaua`i High School and is pursuing an aeronautical and astronautical engineering degree at Purdue University.

“Giving back to my community and creating spaces for children to learn and create friendships is so meaningful to me. It’s how I show kahiau, and how I will continue to show it in my future career,” said Marty. “After graduation, I hope to use the knowledge I gain to continue to advocate for change in my Kauaʻi community for the people I cherish. I plan to go back and integrate student mentorship into my work. I want to strengthen the STEAM opportunities available to students and children on our island and let them know that any career path is possible for them.”

Marty will be entering her second year at Purdue University, where she is a recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. She is a member of the school’s Engineering Project in Community Service program and Harnessing Data Revolution team, which partners with the Standing Rock Tribe. As part of Purdue’s Pets and Animal Welfare Team, she is designing animal shelters and enrichment structures for the Woodhaven Rescue Farm.

Christopher Moore graduated from Dock Mennonite Academy and currently attends Muhlenberg College as an environmental science and political science double major.

“Good leadership comes from balancing what you learn elsewhere with what actually works for the people around you. For me, leadership means taking responsibility for how spaces affect people’s daily lives, not just making decisions from a distance,” said Moore. “I also see leadership as using what I learn from other places to make better choices at home, while still protecting the identity of smaller communities. In doing so, I will be a better designer who will create spaces that are sustainable, collaborative, and worth living in,” Moore added.

Moore has been named to the Dean’s List every semester since entering college. He will begin his third year this fall and is a member of the Environmental Club, the College Chamber Choir, and the College Acapella Group. He also plans to study abroad in Japan.

Both scholars are deeply rooted in their communities in Kauaʻi and Pennsylvania and are committed to applying their newly acquired knowledge and skills to strengthen and serve the places they call home.

“We are incredibly proud of these exceptional scholars, whose achievements are a testament to their hard work, determination, and bright futures,” FMPR Partner Jenny Fujita said.

“Both students have demonstrated exceptional leadership and embodied the spirit of aloha in serving their communities, exemplifying the positive impact young leaders can have in shaping the future,” said FMPR Partner Joy Miura Koerte.

FMPR Scholars are chosen based on several key criteria: they are Kaua`i and/or Pennsylvania residents and students who are pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees; are interested in owning or working for a small business and/or home-based business; engaged in entrepreneurial activities; intend to come home to and pursue their livelihoods in their local communities after undergraduate or graduate school; are engaged in community service and wish to advance their local community after college; have proven intellectual and academic achievements; show integrity of character and an interest in helping others; and have the ability to lead and the motivation to use their talents to the fullest.
